Vinted Shoppers Express Frustration About Size Changes

Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.

The second-hand shopping app has altered its size classifications for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all users about the change.

Social Media Reaction

Countless users and merchants are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.

The company said the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.

The platform has recommended to check their listings and manually change the size where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction.

Measurement Approach Updates

Previously, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.

The new system has a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.

For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - such as a large size was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.

Shopper Stories

A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".

"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.

Another user, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.

"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.

Manual Updates

Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the measurements for "each individual item".

"This situation is especially annoying, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount following partial earnings loss," she explained.

Platform Context

The app has more than 100 million users, including 18 million in the UK.

It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.

This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: previously, the service retracted a modification regarding delivery choices due to shopper criticism.
