'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Families of Unaccounted For Teens Desperately Seek Answers After Ski Resort Fire
The relatives of teenagers lost after a devastating fire at a bar in a Switzerland's winter destination are facing an excruciating wait for official news and appealing for any details about their family members online.
The inferno engulfed the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Verified video reveal the ceiling igniting as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Officials have indicated that it could take days if not weeks to identify the victims of the disaster, which claimed the lives of four dozen individuals and wounded another over a hundred. A spokesperson said on Friday that 113 of the injured have been identified, with the process continuing to locate the final individuals.
In the interim, families and friends have been posting on the internet to appeal for clues about their loved ones who were at the bar that night.
Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For
The fate of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are still unconfirmed, according to an appeal from his family.
The resident of Lutry near the city, informed a local newspaper that she had gone back to Lausanne to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the equivalent search in the capital, but did not locate him.
"I'm living a nightmare, a nightmare. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in intensive care. Words cannot describe it," she told the paper.
She explained that some of his friends had been discovered with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they endured an absolute nightmare."
The Italian foreign ministry has said that a number of of its nationals have not been located.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old promising athlete, originally from Genoa but now residing in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is deceased, without directly referencing the fire, paying tribute to a "young athlete who embodied passion and true sportsmanship."
His parent, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An official spokesperson has indicated that a official announcement of his death is still pending.
Additional Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is likewise among the missing. His parent told reporters that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with friends and ended up at the bar.
"A companion informed me they ran away after the fire erupted and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a certain point he they were separated," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.
One of his educators stated, "I remember his kindness and smile, alongside great maturity. Often ask if get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek nationality but lives permanently in Switzerland, was also present on that night, according to media.
Her sibling has published an appeal on social media, saying the family has had "no information" regarding the 15-year-old or the three friends she was with, who are also reported missing.
Officials from her country of origin say they are closely watching the case.
