Pat Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Leading Abusive Chants Targeting Manager Chris Wilder

The striker has signed with Sheffield United only seven months following instigating insulting taunts targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, without a club since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal joining the second-tier strugglers until January. Bamford's lengthy spell with Leeds finished through agreement in August.

Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting abusive songs regarding Wilder during the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the former England player is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to rescue the team he loves out of the drop zone.

Previous Conflict Involving the Striker & Wilder

The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds moved up to the top flight the previous campaign and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured direct promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends & Looking Ahead

All appears to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost up front while Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his playing days.

The Wilder chant gained traction in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Pat recently and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow professional! However I valued and admired him giving me a call.

“We had a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel too and we had a half-hour chat together and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Career Struggles

Bamford made 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the former Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro player has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
