Antony Price, Famed for Creating Looks for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.
Price was best known for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, such as the pastel suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."
Price's death comes shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.
A Lasting Legacy
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in shaping sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
During the nineties, he started creating ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including a number of outfits for her US tour following her marriage.
After a career spanning over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

The fashion world laments the passing to a true visionary whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
