2K Hires Apex Legends Producer to Rescue Challenged Action Game Project Ethos
2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Transition Comes After Poor Response
Brinkman steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing initial reveal last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a clearer game identity.
The president expressed that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed approach, aiming to satisfy community desires.
Trend of Key Recruitment
The news mirrors a comparable action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock development group.
Here is the complete content from Ismailer's memo:
Dear Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and innovative developers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to persist.”
Given your hard work and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The player input from last fall’s the game testing phase was enlightening. It confirmed the potential of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the necessity for a clearer identity.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the input to mind and reimagined the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to achieve its promise to our fans.
The belief in this project increases every day. To boost the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of the team. Following a period of conversations, he starts with us on the specified date.
His leadership and experience in the competitive gaming space is vast, having devoted the past decade and a half creating and managing some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in receiving Ben next week. We are all eager to continue observing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the weeks to follow.
David
